BTEA CEO Launches the 46th SKAL Asia Area Congress

Under the patronage of H.E Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, the Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the Kingdom of Bahrain is hosting the 46th SKAL Asia Area Congress at the Gulf Hotel from the 11th to 15th of May, 2017.

The SKAL organization is a professional body headquartered in Spain, and it consists of senior members and experts in the tourism, travel, and hospitality industry within its club in Bahrain and international counterparts.

The congress was attended by Mr. David Fisher, the President of SKAL international and Mr. Robert Sohn, the President of SKAL - Asian Area. The event attracted around 120 members, including 70 from the Asian continent, as well as participants from Argentina, Canada and the United Kingdom, and 50 local businessmen.

The conference will run over a period of four days, and will include a series of meetings that will give members an opportunity to discuss the latest trends in the tourism sector and the challenges faced in their countries, and also offer a platform for trade opportunities and potential partnerships.

“We are pleased to host the 46th SKAL Asia Area Congress and it gives me great pleasure to welcome businessmen, experts, and members of SKAL from all around the world to participate in this conference. We are also honored to have the President of SKAL International and the President of SKAL Asian Area amongst us in this auspicious occasion,” said the Chief Executive Officer of the BTEA, H.E. Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa.

“The event further affirms the role played by the Kingdom since joining this international organization and its continuous efforts to develop the tourism sector at local, regional and international levels,” he added.

Mr. Mohamed Buzizi, President of SKAL Bahrain, also gave his welcome note during the opening ceremony.

“It is a pleasure to host the 46th SKAL Asia Area Congress in Bahrain and we are very keen to welcome all our guests to the kingdom and introduce them to our touristic identity. This also comes as a great opportunity to showcase the strengths of the tourism sector in Bahrain which is expected to remain an integral part in developing and generating further growth within the economy,” said Mr. Buzizi.

The 46th SKAL Asia Area Congress coincides with the 45th year anniversary of the SKAL club since its inception in Bahrain in 1972. The SKAL club in Bahrain consists of a group of prominent businessmen committed to developing the tourism sector and strengthening its position on the world tourism map.
